Project cost formation

The cost of the animal husbandry project was based on a comprehensive analysis of the needs and costs required to ensure high-quality and safe animal care.

The cost of maintaining 25 cats and 25 dogs per year was calculated based on the animals' basic needs, which include:

  1. Food
Cats: The cost of food for one cat can range from 300 UAH (economy option) to 900 UAH (premium food) per month. The annual cost was calculated by multiplying the monthly cost by 12 for 25 cats.

Dogs: Dogs consume more food depending on their size and type of food, so the costs range from 1,500 UAH to 3,600 UAH per month. The annual cost was also calculated by multiplying by 12 for 25 dogs.

  2. Litter (for cats)
The cost for one cat ranges from 100 to 300 UAH per month. For 25 cats, this gives an annual amount multiplied by 12 months.

  3. Veterinary care
Cats: The cost of one veterinary check-up, including a full blood test, ranges from 300 to 500 UAH per cat. As this check-up is done every 3 months, there are 4 check-ups per year. The annual cost was calculated by multiplying by 4 and by the number of cats.

Dogs: Veterinary costs for dogs are higher due to additional tests, such as for dirofilariasis. The cost per check-up is 500-700 UAH, also done 4 times a year.

  4. Parasite treatment
Cats: The cost for parasite treatment per cat is 150-250 UAH. The treatment is done once every 3 months, totaling 4 treatments annually.

Dogs: Parasite treatment for dogs is done monthly, and the cost per course ranges from 200 to 400 UAH.

  5. Passport and microchipping
This is a one-time expense, and the cost per animal for passport and microchipping ranges from 300 to 500 UAH.

  6. Vaccination
Both cats and dogs receive two vaccines: against rabies and viral diseases. The rabies vaccine costs 150-300 UAH for cats and 200-400 UAH for dogs, while the viral disease vaccine costs 250-400 UAH for cats and 300-500 UAH for dogs. This is a one-time annual expense.

  7. Accessories
Cats: Beds or houses, bowls, and water dispensers are one-time expenses. The cost of a bed ranges from 300 to 600 UAH, and bowls and water dispensers range from 100 to 200 UAH.

Dogs: In addition to beds and bowls, dogs also need collars and leashes, costing from 200 to 400 UAH. Beds range from 400 to 800 UAH, and bowls and water dispensers cost 150-300 UAH.

Thus, all costs were calculated by multiplying the average expense per animal by the number of animals and the time period (monthly or annual expenses), to get the total cost for 25 cats and 25 dogs per year.

To find the average between the minimum and maximum amounts, you need to find their arithmetic mean.

The formula for calculating the average:

Thus, the average amount of expenses for the upkeep of 50 animals (25 cats and 25 dogs) per year is 1,309,375 UAH.
